Lucian Matis Sample sale
I did a Recession? What Recession? and went to the Lucian Matis F/W 08 sample sale today.
For those of you that don’t know who Lucian is, he was the runner up for the first season of Project Runway Canada famous for his European holier-than-thou attitude that made me LOL. He did manage to calm down as the show progressed and let his talent talk instead.
He did a fabulous s/s 09 show. Who can forget his bubble shirt and towel turbans?

He was also previously mentioned in my LOreal Fashion Week versus ethics post where he was crowned the king of ethical fashionliness.
Anyways, I wasn’t familiar with the address so I was surprised that the directions led me to a residential home. It turns out that the sample sale was in Lucian’s living room and he was hosting it along with his creative director and photographer, Arline Malakian. I was a bit starstuck when I met both of them, Lucian for the obvious reason and because I’ve admired Arline’s photography for a long time.
Luckily, I arrived after the initial rush and right before the end of the work day and was able to have both Lucian and Arline’s full attention. Lucian served tea and they picked out clothes for me personally which was really quite a treat. Normally sample sales are hosted in unused commercial spaces by less-than-lovely hipsters and have the lowest common denominator in service. This certainly wasn’t a typical sample sale.
I think I’ve just been spoiled for any shopping less than what I just experienced.
I ended up buying a version of this shirt.

from lucianmatis.com
and another dress that had such pretty ruching at the bottom.
Both were of exceptional prices.
That’s a great skirt (bottom pic)
Cute top! How unusual to have a sale in your own house, but then it would be a nicer experience than a cold warehouse.
